There is a safe middle ground here, and then there is a hard stop.

You can safely look. Check whether the cable has simply slipped its groove, photograph the drum and any model markings, and verify whether the door is level in the closed position. Do not pull the red emergency release cord if the door is stuck partway open. A released door with a failed cable can drop hard on one side.

Do not attempt to rewind, replace, or adjust cables yourself. These cables are under the same torsion as the spring, and a slipping wrench or miscounted winding turn can release stored energy without warning.
